New York kid's modeling industry... look out!

I had the pleasure of shooting this handsome boy one day last month and the next thing I know he's picked up by one of my favorite NYC children's modeling agencies. Congratulations JR! Now we have to hurry and shoot more for his comp card. Can't wait!

Summer In Winter for a day...

One reason I love commercial photography is that when I'm doing fashion it's all about the next season to come. Spring!!! In this cold dead of winter I really needed something to remind me that there will be a day again soon when I can go outside for more than 8 minutes.

We just shot the recent Denny's Spring/Summer/Camp campaign at the home studio and it was a big sunny success. Yes it was, as my assistant said on her blog, riddled with technical problems all day. Like the 3,000 dollar (rented!) strobe pack dying. And my new Mark 2 camera being so new that it wasn't compatible with Live Capture yet... but that's what I am so good at. Making things work when they don't. As a producer I used to put out fires and pull things out of my @$$ for over 10 years. Throw a problem at me and I'll solve it toot sweet. So when the client showed up at 8:30 am and informed me that our 1st model had bailed, I made one phone call to my very good friend and 10 minutes later we were graced with Lindsy Cohen as our 1st model of the day! Thanks Candace!!!

It was a full day of shorts, summer dresses, camp accessories and dancing to Beyonce's Single Ladies... thankfully I knew the words and that made my little models laugh up a storm.

This is my 4th shoot with Denny's and their ad agency and I really love working with them. Shout out to Joyce, Adam, Lauren, Jody, Tara, Krista, Spencer & Kathy. A team that makes it work no matter what happens. And people that I genuinely like.

What happened to summer & fall?

Yes I have been blog missing. Haven't posted anything since May. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Like being too busy to post. Or a bad thing, like just laziness. But really who cares! Cause I've got pictures!!!

OK I've had some really great shoots and some not so great shoots. But all have taught me something great and wonderful. Like if you try hard enough you can illuminate a face beautifully with just one great studio light.

So I have a bunch of great stuff to show you. Let me know what you think!

Child Model Shoot in the Village

How lucky am I? OK not really lucky, actually, just very resourceful. I found the perfect location for my NYC kids modeling shoots. Unless you book a session with me I can't really divulge exactly where it is (too much competition!) but I can tell you it is in my beloved G. Village where I spent my Carrie Bradshaw days! My session there last week was filled to perfection with natural even light and cool urban textures. And of course my subjects. That's where I get lucky. Beautiful. See for yourself. These are all straight out of the camera but will soon be edited into comp cards for both stunners who have recently signed with Willy Kids.

BFF's

I had to shoot a round of film for a friend's accessories company and I used 2 little girls from down the road who are the ultimate friends. These girls inspire me. There's something so amazing about having a best friend. Life seems more doable with them by your side. Mornings are easier to deal with after that 9am phone call, secrets don't seem so shocking once told to them, and you always know there's someone out there that loves you no matter what. I have been lucky in my life to have more than my fair share of BFFs. And even luckier to have 2 sisters I can add to that small group. My sisters will always be my first best friends and the ones whom I have learned the most from. So today I want to say thank you to all my sisters... my Nick at night, my life Sheild and my summer Rain. You know who you are. Even the one I haven't seen in 12 years. I love you and I thank God for you every day.

I'd Rather Be Working

Not sure what it is but I'm not the "Mother's Day" hoopla type. Maybe because it seems like everyday around here is mom's day as my husband falls over backwards to help out with everything. If I told you what he does for us on a daily basis you'd fall over. Or come steal him. So I won't. Lets just say he's domestically involved. So when the art director of the magazine I shoot for told me they moved up the deadline and had to shoot the cover asap, I scheduled it for Sunday. What could be more fun?! Everyone felt bad for me that I had to work so they all pitched in... little did they know I couldn't have been happier and for me it was really celebrating what I love doing with the one's I love the most.

My subject this time was a very handsome 7 year old model named Gage. Great name, amazing kid. He recently lost his two front teeth and we wondered how that would look.. but it turned out amazing. The best part of it was that both my guys helped me with the whole shoot. It's very much a family effort when I shoot at the home studio. Matty acted as client liaison, eating lunch with the model and entertaining him between shots. Mark was my PA for the day, changing back drops and hauling equipment. Having them around was my favorite part. Seriously, what can be better! OK, so maybe I did enjoy Mother's day after all.

I shot the Cover!

Recently I had the honor of shooting the cover and editorial for NY Newsday's LI Parent & Child Magazine. The cover model was the winner of Newsday's yearly Cover Model Contest. So cute. I also shot all of the 12 runner ups for a spread in the magazine. I loved every minute of this job. Getting to meet all these cool, funky NY kids and their parents was so much fun. They all loved the camera and looked amazing.

And here's the cover girl!!
